  • Cucumber seeds can be started indoors no more than 3-4 weeks earlier than your last frost date. Cucumber plants do not like to become root bound and will suffer from transplanting stress if plants are too large. Seeds can also be direct-sown, even in shorter growing seasons.

Bury seeds 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep and cover with soil. Keep moist until germination in ~5-10 days. May take longer with cooler soil temperatures.

Space plants 3-4 feet (90-120 cm) apart if left to sprawl on the ground, or 1 foot (30 cm) apart with trelising.

  • Cucumis sativus
