For earlier blooms, start Portulaca seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-seed outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.
Sprinkle seeds onto the soil surface without covering, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually occurs in 10-14 days.
After the last frost, transplant seedlings to a sunny location, spacing plants 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) apart.
