Fern Leaf Lavender, also known as Spanish Eyes Lavender, is an aromatic tender perennial often grown as an annual in cooler climates. This distinctive variety features finely divided, fern-like silver-green foliage and soft lavender-purple flower heads topped with decorative “ears,” giving it a unique ornamental look. As a first-year blooming lavender, it is an excellent choice for northern climates where perennial lavender does not reliably overwinter, allowing gardeners to enjoy lavender flowers and fragrance in a single season.

*Days to Maturity – Begins flowering in approximately 70-80 days from sowing.

*First-Year Blooming – Flowers the same season from seed, ideal for northern gardens.

  • Start lavender seeds indoors 6-8 weeks prior to your last frost date.

Cold stratification will improve germination. Place seeds in a moist paper towel inside a plastic bag or container. Leave in the fridge for ~2 weeks before seeding.

Press seeds into soil and very lightly cover. Keep moist, but not wet until germination in ~14-21 days (may be longer with cooler temperatures).

Transplant after your last frost date into a sunny location, with plants 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) apart.
