  • Squash seeds can be started indoors no more than 3-4 weeks earlier than your last frost date. Squash plants do not like to become root bound and will suffer from transplanting stress if plants are too large. Seeds can also be direct-sown, even in shorter growing seasons.

Bury seeds 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) deep and cover with soil. Keep moist until germination in ~5-10 days. May take longer with cooler soil temperatures.

Space plants 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) apart for bush varieties and or 4-5 feet (120-150 cm) apart for vining varieties.

  • Cucurbita pepo
