  • How to Start Cucumber Seeds for a Healthy Harvest

*Indoor Planting: Start cucumber seeds indoors about 3-4 weeks before the last frost date to give plants an early start without becoming root-bound, as cucumbers can suffer transplant shock if they outgrow their containers.

*Direct Sowing: In most climates, cucumber seeds can also be directly sown outdoors once the soil has warmed up, even in shorter growing seasons.

*Planting Depth & Spacing: Sow seeds 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep, covering with soil and keeping the area consistently moist until germination, which occurs in 5-10 days (may take longer in cooler soils).

*Spacing Requirements: Space cucumber plants 3-4 feet (90-120 cm) apart if they’ll spread on the ground. For trellised plants, space them closer, about 1 foot (30 cm) apart, to maximize garden space.

By following these steps, you’ll create an ideal environment for your cucumbers to thrive, whether growing them indoors or directly outdoors.
