Start Mulberry Rose Nigella seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-seed outdoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost date.
For indoor sowing, press seeds lightly into the soil and do not cover, as light aids in germination. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 10-14 days.
For direct-seeding, scatter seeds onto prepared soil and press them lightly into the surface. Do not cover the seeds, and keep the soil moist until germination begins.
After the last frost, transplant seedlings (if started indoors) into a sunny location with well-draining soil. Space plants 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) apart for optimal growth. Nigella is a low-maintenance plant that self-sows readily, ensuring blooms return year after year.
