For earlier blooms, start strawflower seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. Seeds can also be direct-sown outdoors after the risk of frost has passed.
Press seeds lightly into the soil and do not cover, as light aids germination. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 7-14 days.
After your last frost date, transplant seedlings into a sunny location with well-draining soil, spacing plants 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) apart. Strawflowers are drought-tolerant once established and will bloom throughout the season with minimal care. Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering.
